Squid Game Star Park Hae-Soo Among Three Added to Cast of Daniel Dae Kim Spy Series B

The upcoming Amazon Prime Video series “Butterfly” starring Daniel Dae Kim has added three recurring guest stars, Variety has learned exclusively.

Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, and Nayoon Kim have all joined the spy thriller series, which is based on the BOOM! Studios graphic novel of the same name created by Arash Amel, written by Amel and Marguerite Bennett, and illustrated by Antonio Fuso and Stefano Simeone.

Along with Kim, Reina Hardesty is also set to star in the series. “Butterfly” was ordered to series at Prime Video in May 2023. The streamer has given the series a six episode order.

Per the official logline, the series is “centered on David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him.”

Park is best known internationally for his role as Sang Woo in the megahit Netflix series “Squid Game.” His work on that show earned him an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in a drama. In his native South Korea, he is also known for his roles in projects like “Prison Playbook,” “Chimera,” “Money Heist: Korea,” and “Ruthless Operation.”

He is repped by BH Entertainment and UTA.

Tae-hee Kim began her career as a model before breaking out with her role in the South Korean TV series “Stairway to Heaven.” She went on to star in shows like “Forbidden Love” and “Love Story in Harvard” and in films like “Iris” and “Lies Hidden In My Garden.”

She is repped by Story J Company.

Nayoon Kim, at just six years old, has appeared in South Korean dramas like “My Home,” “Secret Woman,” and “It’s Showtime” in addition to numerous commercial and modeling appearances.

Ken Woodruff and novelist Steph Cha are the co-creators and executive producers on the show, with Woodruff also set to serve as showrunner. Daniel Dae Kim will executive produce along with John Cheng under their 3AD banner, which is currently under a first-look TV deal at Amazon Studios. Stephen Christy and Ross Richie of BOOM! Studios also executive produce along with and Amel via The Amel Company. Adam Yoelin serves as co-executive producer for BOOM! Studios. Kitao Sakuri will direct the first two episodes of the series.
